Egypt reported 491 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the total infection tally officially to 293,448 since the outbreak began in February 2020, the health ministry said in its daily coronavirus update statement.
Monday’s toll is considered the highest daily rise of reported infections in 88 days. Egypt has been witnessing a continual rise in daily infections since the beginning of August, with officials expecting hikes in daily numbers late September.
The health ministry also reported 14 new deaths, causing the total number of deaths from the virus to reach 16,885.
As many as 399 patients have been discharged during the past 24 hours after recovering from the virus, the ministry said, raising the total number of recoveries to 247,125.
