Ahram Online journalist Salma El-Wardany was arrested Thursday morning in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum while covering the protests in front of Khartoum University.

El-Wardany, 25, was among the group of reporters who helped found Ahram Online. An outstanding business and economy reporter, she has been on assignment for Bloomberg in Khartoum for the past year. She was reportedly arrested with blogger Maha El-Senussi known on Twitter as @Mimzicalmimz.

Seraj Omer @Serjyooo tweeted "now the security body is detaining both member of "we are fed up" movement, Maha El-Senosy  @MimzicalMim,  and the journalist, Salma El-Wardany @S_Elwardany.

El-Wardany's latest tweet was four hours ago. It said: "BREAKING: Khartoum state government dissolved, as anti-austerity unrest enters the fifth day: Governor #Sudanrevolts."

Meanwhile, Ahram Online staff are all cheering for our beloved friend and colleague and praying for her speedy release.

Ahram Online calls on the Sudanese government to immediately release Salma; on the Egyptian government to intervene to secure her release; and on all pro-democracy and media freedom campaginers in the world to join in solidarity.
