“The move opens prospects for coexistence and consensus between all societal segments for the interest of Egypt,” said head of the Journalists Syndicate Diaa Rashwan in a statement on Tuesday.
During the Egyptian Family Iftar banquet that was held on Tuesday, El-Sisi issued a host of decisions, including assigning the National Youths Conference to conduct a political dialogue with all parties and youth political forces on the current priorities of national action.
The president also announced the re-activation of the Presidential Pardon Committee, which was initially formed in October 2016 to review the cases of those imprisoned for political crimes and others who meet certain other conditions, such as families who have more than one relative in jail.
Furthermore, he called on the government to adopt several economic measures to support farmers, provide basic commodities at subsidised prices till the end of the year, and engage the private sector in the country’s economic projects.
Rashwan welcomed all of the president’s decisions — whether at the economic, social, developmental, or political level — saying such steps would push the country forward towards a better future, the statement added.
He also praised the president’s comment on the release of a group of pre-trial Egyptian prisoners over the past few days, in which he said that “the homeland can accommodate all of us.”
On Sunday, the country’s Public Prosecution released 41 pretrial detainees, some of which were political and economic activists.
Moreover, Rashwan expressed his hope that the step would be followed by other ones that release other detainees, especially fellow journalists.
