The Egyptian Social Democratic Party (ESDP) in a press statement published Saturday has accused the military police of concealing the whereabouts of three party members who were arrested Thursday evening while taking part in an advocacy campaign over the Egyptian constitution in the Cairo district of Nasr City.
An ad-hoc body set up for the defence of the party’s detained members claims that the military police refused to release any details concerning their location or the charges against them. Further, the group accuses the military police of limiting communication with the detainees and not allowing them to contact their lawyers.
The ESDP condemned in a press release issued Saturday accusations against the three party members — Karim El-Kanany, Islam Amin and Mohamed Massoud — had violently attacked the private residence of General Hamdy Badeen.
“The trial is fabricated and is a personal courtesy to satisfy the director of the military police, Hamdy Badeen,” the statement added.
The ESDP claims that Kanany, Amin and Massoud were taking part in a campaign to raise awareness on the Egyptian constitution and had no other purpose.
President Mohamed Morsi recently formed a committee to review the status of all protesters arrested and detained after the 25 January uprising, which has exceeded 12,000 people.
