“On the 49th anniversary of this glorious victory that we celebrate today, I salute the Egyptian people and our brave Armed Forces for their valour and heroism, and I salute our martyrs who sacrificed their souls under the nation's flag,” El-Sisi said.
“On this day, I also salute late president Anwar El-Sadat, a hero in war and peace, who fought the war with great confidence in God and built the nation with determination, achieving a great victory that shall remain evidence to the willpower of the Egyptian people who grasp tightly to the nation's sovereignty and dignity.”
On Tuesday, El-Sisi delivered a speech celebrating the occasion, saying that the October War victory will remain eternally carved in the conscience of Egyptians, Arabs, and all peace-loving peoples.
"This day was designed to be eternally carved not only in the conscience of the Egyptian people, but also in the conscience of the entire Arab nation and all peace-loving peoples in the world," the president said.
Egypt did not only fight to defend its land, but also to achieve peace, he stressed.
On Monday, El-Sisi laid a wreath at the Unknown Soldier Memorial to mark the occasion.
