The Committee's deputy chairman Adel Abdel-Fadil said the bonus is part of a new package of social protection initiatives unveiled by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli at the end of last week's economic conference.

"This is the second bonus in less than six months and aims to help vulnerable classes bear the high cost of living triggered by global economic crises," said Abdel-Fadil.

Abdel-Fadil indicated that "the bill will be discussed and voted by the House in a plenary session on Tuesday in order to go into effect on the same day (the first of November).

The bill states that the EGP 300 bonus will be disbursed to a number of 4.6 million civil servants with the state's administrative system, at a total cost of EGP 16.4 billion, and a number of 10.5 million pensioners, at a total cost of EGP 32 billion.

"Employees in economic institutions, the public sector and public enterprise companies will also obtain the EGP 300 bonus, meaning that their minimum wage will rise from EGP 2,700 to EGP 3,000," said the bill, adding that "the Ministry of Labour Force will bear the cost of the bonus disbursed to workers in loss-making companies."
