Egypt criminal court postpones trial of Mohamed Mahmoud protesters to 13 October

Trial of protesters accused of 'vandalism and illegal assembly' during the clashes of Mohamed Mahmoud in Cairo in November of last year was postponed on Tuesday till mid-October

Cairo Criminal Court on Tuesday postponed the trial of dozens of protesters on charges of vandalism and illegal assembly related to their involvement in the Mohamed Mahmoud clashes in November, 2011 till 13 October.

On trial are 399, including three Americans and one Syrian, accused of attacking security forces guarding the interior ministry, and carrying fire arms and bladed weapons.

At least 41 protesters died and thousands were injured during five days of street battles after police forces violently dispersed a sit-in on Tahrir Square on 19 November.

On 3 June, in another case related to the clashes, the trial of the police officer Mohamed El-Shinawy known as the 'sniper of the eyes' was postponed by the criminal court to September.

El-Shinawy faces charges of deliberately shooting protesters in the eyes during the clashes.
