Anan, military production minister meet with Egyptian President Morsi

Morsi meets with the army's chief-of-staff and the minister of military production Saturday morning, as the army's operation in Sinai continues following last week's border attack

Military Chief-of-Staff Sami Anan and Minister of Military Production Mj. Gen Ali Sabri arrive in the presidential palace for a secretive meeting with President Morsi Saturday afternoon, hours after Morsi sat down with the members of the National Defence Council.

The state did not provide further details on the meetings.

President Morsi met with the members of the National Defence Council early Saturday morning to follow up on the broad security operation in Sinai, which was launched after unidentified gunmen on Sunday killed 16 Egyptian guards near the border and tried to storm southern Israel.

Since Tuesday, Egypt has poured troops into North Sinai to clamp down on "militants" in the Israeli border region in the Sinai Peninsula. Army commanders said as many as 20 people they consider terrorists were killed in the offensive.

On Friday, an Egyptian military source stated that the Armed Forces had arrested six "terrorists" in Sinai.
