Helmy’s remarks came during the session of the Health Committee, which was held on Thursday under the theme of "Healthcare: Between Challenges and Hopes" to discuss the health file and the possibility of a comprehensive health insurance law.

All Egyptians, at home and abroad, stand to benefit from this law, he added.

For her part, Rapporteur of the National Dialogue's Health Committee Randa Mostafa noted that "a strong nation does not exist without strong healthcare and education."

Meanwhile, Head of the Health Committee in the Senate Mahran Raees asserted that Egypt has substantially increased expenditure on healthcare.

According to state figures, the country has increased spending on the health sector by 18.5 percent, from EGP108 billion in FY2021/2022 to EGP128 billion in FY2022/2023, said Raees.

Furthermore, he stressed that as many as 1.9 million people have benefited from the preidential initiative to eliminate waiting lists.

Raees added that improving the working conditions of doctors is essential.

Almost 11,000 doctors have submitted their resignations in recent months and 2,000 workers are refusing work assignments due to low wages, he affirmed.

The National Dialogue, which began 3 May, discusses the social track on Thursdays and the political and economic tracks on Sundays and Tuesdays.
