The Ministry of Interior confirms four policemen were injured along with a soldier after an armed attack near Sinai; army denies reports

While a military source told the state-owned news agency MENA that troops were not subject to an armed attack Saturday as circulating news claims, a spokesman of the Minister of Interior confirmed that four Egyptian policemen and a soldier was injured during an attack by armed men near Sinai.

The troops were reportedly attacked with an RPG while returning from a mission where they arrested suspected militants. The attack resulted in the injury of five who were all transferred to the military hospital in Al-Arish.

Following the 6 August attack in Sinai that left 16 soldiers dead, Egypt's army has conducted a widespread crackdown on militants based in Sinai. The military operation is the region's biggest since Egypt's 1973 war with Israel.

According to a statement published by the Ministry of Interior Saturday, security troops joined by army members initiated two missions targeting miliants in both Rafah and Al-Arish after recieving information on armed elements in Sinai.

The first mission resulting in capturing a 26-year-old, allegedly a member of an Islamist militant group, while the second resulted in the capture of two Palestinians who were reportedly arrested in possession of drugs and guns.
