Egypt’s new top prosecutor Mohamed Shawki Ayad sworn in before Sisi

Judge Mohamed Shawki Ayad was sworn in on Sunday before President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi as Egypt’s new prosecutor-general, succeeding Hamada El-Sawy who had been in the post since September 2019.

President El-Sisi wished Ayad success in guaranteeing citizens’ rights in accordance with the constitution and law, within the framework of the sovereignty of law.

Meanwhile, President El-Sisi awarded the Order of the Republic, First Class to El-Sawy, expressing his appreciation for the former top prosecutor over his efforts to protect the rights of people and society.

The president appointed Ayad to the post last month, effective 19 September.

Ayad, 66, served in senior judicial positions in appeal courts and the Public Prosecution office.

He has served as assistant minister of justice for judicial inspection affairs since 2020.

He worked in the judicial system in Dubai, UAE, from 2012 to 2018.
