Egypt's justice ministry has begun a fresh corruption investigation into former president Hosni Mubarak, his wife Suzanne and their two sons, Gamal and Alaa.

The case involves the alleged illegal acquisition of 64 feddans (66.4 acres) of land in Sharqiya in the Nile Delta by the Mubarak family.

A special committee has been formed to investigate the case.

Newly appointed Justice Minister Ahmed Mekki referred the case for investigation after a complaint was filed last week with the general prosecutor.
