These recommendations and a list of detainees will be submitted to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for consideration.

The trustees' board's approval came during a meeting to review the outcomes of specialised sessions held in July that focused on pretrial detention and criminal justice.

Discussions also covered several key issues, including the duration, mechanism, and alternatives of pretrial detention. They also dealt with handling multiple and concurrent crimes and compensating wrongful detention.

In May 2023, when the dialogue was initiated, the General Coordinator Diaa Rashwan stated that “pretrial detention, in my opinion, will be one of the most important outcomes of the dialogue".

Rashwan added that the dialogue received many draft bills to amend the pretrial detention provisions in the penal code and criminal law.

Weeks ago, the National Dialogue's Board of Trustees thanked President El-Sisi for releasing 79 more detainees in response to calls from political forces in the country.

The National Dialogue was launched upon a call from President El-Sisi to address Egypt's diverse political, economic, and social issues.

In August 2023, the first round of discussions concluded with recommendations later submitted to El-Sisi.

In January 2024, President El-Sisi called for launching a second round of the National Dialogue to tackle economic challenges.
