Hundreds of protesters gathered in Talat Harb Square Saturday to voice five key demands in a demonstration under the slogan "Regaining the rights of Egyptians."

The protest that was called for by Kazeboon — a campaign first launched by activists to expose lies by the then military junta — demanded the removal of the minister of interior blamed for the resurgence of police brutality after several strikes were violently attacked last week. The protest, in addition, refused Islamist hegemony over the Constituent Assembly drafting Egypt's new constitution.

Furthermore, protesters voiced opposition to the prospective IMF loan to Egypt.

The protest featured a number of anti-Muslim Brotherhood chants, such as "They promised us El-Nahda (Renaissance), yet people are still dying," and "Egypt's people claim the Muslim Brotherhood as remnants of the former regime."

Present at the protest were a number of political forces, including the Revolutionary Socialists, the Workers and Peasants Party, the National Front for Justice and Democracy, Kefaya, and Kazeboon.

On 1 September a similar protest took place with thousands in Talat Harb Square voicing similar demands.
