Abdel Hakim Abdel Nasser, the son of former president Gamal Abdel Nasser, has announced the merger of four Nasserist political parties in Egypt into a single bloc. The announcement came on 28 September, the anniversary of Nasser's death in 1970, at Nasser's tomb in Abbasiya, Cairo.

The Arabic Democratic Nasserist Party, the National Accord Party, the Arabic Dignity Party and the Popular Nasserist Conference will be merged into one party under the name the Nasserite Party.

The son of the late president stated that this merger is part of the Nasserists' commitment to Nasser's legacy.  Abdel Nasser, who endorsed Nasserist candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi in the first round of the 2012 presidential elections, added that the votes Sabbahi received which took him to third place in the contest showed the need to unite supporters in Egypt.

Abdel Nasser also stated that the Nasserists in Egypt continue to consider Zionists to be enemies who should be fought, and to work on preserving the rights of Palestinians so as to fight American control in the region.

Sameh Ashour, head of the Nasserist Party and the head of lawyers' syndicate, said that the party will work on stopping the current Constituent Assembly from drafting the upcoming constitution as it does not represent all Egyptians.

On Friday supporters of late President Nasser and members of his family headed to his tomb to commemorate the anniversary of his death.
