In an official meeting in Cairo on Wednesday, the Council unanimously accepted Moushira Khattab's resignation from her position as president.

The resignation was submitted in advance and cited Khattab's intention to run for a high-level international position.

According to the Council's internal regulations, Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, who previously served as Vice President, has been appointed to lead the Council for the remainder of its current term.

The Council appreciated Khattab's contributions during her tenure, noting that her leadership coincided with a crucial phase of institutional development.

In a statement, the Council thanked Khattab for her service and extended best wishes as she pursues a new role on the international stage.

The Council's June meeting also addressed several institutional matters, including finalising a key report for submission to the Sub-Committee on Accreditation, a body responsible for evaluating national human rights institutions globally.

Council members reviewed ongoing projects and recent activities, especially those undertaken by the Civil and Political Rights Committee in coordination with the European Union.

Reports on recent international engagements, field visits, fact-finding missions, and training initiatives were also presented.

Hany Ibrahim, the Council's Secretary-General, outlined a new administrative reform plan to enhance the Council's operational capacity and address past challenges.
