Egyptian police force use tear gas to disperse a Ministry of Supply and Interior Trade labour protest in the Upper Egypt city of Qena on Monday.
Protesters, who are employees at the ministry, had called for a demonstration to decry officials' lack of response to their demands. Some of the demands include adequate transportation needed for the bakery [the government has bakeries that sell subsidised bread], distribution, fuel and petroleum products, in addition an increase in salaries.
Al-Ahram Arabic’s news portal correspondent in Qena states that 12 suffocated from the tear gas and three activists were arrested in the city.
Protesters were heard chanting against Governor Adel Labib and demanding protection from police.
