Head of Egypt’s National Elections Authority (NEA) Hazem Badawi annulled on Thursday the results from four polling stations in the second phase’s runoff of the 2025 House of Representatives elections, excluding these stations' ballot papers.

During a press conference, Badawi explained that the results from these polling stations were annulled due to a fundamental flaw that impacted the legitimacy of the counting procedures. He affirmed, however, that their respective constituencies will not be affected.

The NEA head identified these polling stations as 71 in the second constituency in Bilbeis, Sharqiya, 26 and 33 in the second constituency in Mansoura, Dakahliya, and 68 in the eighth constituency in Mit Ghamr, Dakahliya.

The second phase covers 13 governorates: Cairo, Qalyoubia, Dakahliya, Menoufiya, Gharbiya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sharqiya, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai, and South Sinai.

The first round of voting for the second phase was held abroad on 21–22 November, and domestically on 24–25 November, while the runoff took place outside Egypt on 15–16 December and inside Egypt on 17–18 December.

During the press conference, Badawi pointed out that premature announcements of results on social media, based on the numerical counts that polling stations release, which end up conflicting with the final official results, spark controversy and distract voters.

He emphasized that the NEA has repeatedly stated that what is released by the main polling stations does not constitute an official announcement of results.

The NEA head added that the Authority reviews, audits, and re-checks any possible calculation errors in the counting and aggregation of votes.

He further noted that in cases where practices in sub-polling stations prove to compromise the integrity of the voting process, the NEA immediately addresses these cases and annuls voting results.

Moreover, Badawi stated that following the calculation of the votes of Egyptians abroad and in accordance with proper procedure, the NEA announces the official results.

The current House of Representatives was elected in late 2020 for a five-year term that expires in January 2026. Under the constitution, elections for a new chamber must be held within 60 days before the end of the current term.
