25 January activists to meet Tuesday, discuss formation of political party

A group called the "25th January Party" is meeting tomorrow to announce the attitudes, goals and principles of their proposed political party and discuss proposals for an alternative name.


The Facebook group of mostly Egyptian youth that includes many of the online acticvists behind the 25 January uprising has called for the creation of a democratic party -  the 25th January Party - and already has 239,493 members.

Members of the party, according to the group, will be selected according to their political, social and economical background. They have received 50,000 membership requests so far.

The party's platform will be announced to the public and the media on 3 March.

The party's first meeting will take place in Cairo and then move to other Egyptian governorates.
