Moderate rains and lightning brought traffic to a halt in Cairo on Wednesday.
The rains came a day before the start of the four-day Eid al-Adha holiday.
The coastal governorate of Marsa Matrouh and other parts of the North Coast have experienced heavier rains, which left pools of water on the side of the main roads.
The meteorological services have announced that heavy rains are also expected in the Sinai governorate and northern parts of the country.
In early October, heavy rains poured down in Sinai, causing minor flooding.
