In West Egypt, protests continue as economic conditions remain poor

About 500 protesters from the city of Saloum closed the road between Egypt and Libya today.

Citizens are angry that they have been stopped from working in the Saloum border terminal for 18 months. Many locals in Saloum depend on the terminal for their income.

On 28 January, now known as the “Day of Anger,” bloody clashes took place in the city that resulted in the burning of all police stations, the state security headquarters, and three buses.

The clashes led to the injury of 13 police officers.
