Military: Loud air force exercises no cause for panic

Ahram Online, Tuesday 13 Nov 2012

Military spokesperson tells citizens that sounds of planes are expected to continue until the end of November as the air force carries out training exercises

Spokesperson for the Armed Forces Colonel Ahmed Ali stated on Tuesday that Egypt's air force will be performing military exercises in some governorates, and loud noises from aircraft are to be expected.

Ali urged citizens not to worry, adding that the training is expected to continue until the end of November.

On 29 October, Egyptian military planes broke the sound barrier during a test of air defence systems in the Cairo vicinity, causing many residents concern as the loud noise was mistakenly believed to be an explosion.
