Army source denies media reports that Egyptian armed forces are on alert in Sinai and that additional troops have been deployed near border with Gaza Strip, says Egypt will not be dragged into pre-planned war

Egyptian armed forces in North Sinai are not on alert and no additional forces have been deployed to border points following the Israeli aggression on Gaza, a military source has told Ahram Online.

The source said Sinai was a red line but Egypt would not be dragged into a pre-planned war.

The denial came after news reports the Egyptian army was on alert in North Sinai and additional troops were being deployed to border points.

Colonel Ahmed Ali, official army spokesperson, announced on his official Facebook page that General Sobhi Sedky, armed forces chief of staff, had visited one of the biggest air force bases in the West Suez Canal Zone on Thursday.

The spokesperson added that General Sedky was attending air force exercises but gave no further details.
