Thousands of people have gathered at the Rabaa Al-Adawiya mosque in Cairo's Nasr City in support of President Mohamed Morsi and the draft constitution.

The Muslim Brotherhood, the organisation the president hails from, had called for its members and supporters to demonstrate in response to opposition demonstrations planned for the same day at the presidential palace.

Opposition groups and parties have been holding regular mass demonstrations every Tuesday and Friday to protest the president's now-cancelled constitutional declaration, the ongoing decisions that resulted from the declaration, including the president's appointment of a new prosecutor-general, and against the draft constitution, which they say was drafted by an unrepresentative assembly.

The draft constitution will be voted on in a referendum on 15 and 22 December.
