Hundreds of protesters took part in a sit-in at Port Said governorate headquarters on Sunday, blocking the main route in front of the building. The protesters demanded the immediate release of registration forms for governorate residential units.
The governor of Port Said had announced that, on the occasion of Port Said's National Day, 23 December, registration forms would be available for planned residential units in the governorate, but the planned release of these forms was suddenly delayed.
According to an official statement issued on Sunday after the sit-in took place, the registration forms will be available once the ministry of housing announces the conditions for registration by 10 January 2013.
However, the protesters then forced the ferry port between Port Said and Port Fouad city to close, and after negotiations with security a deal was reached to allow ferries to operate for one hour. In return the protesters will be given registration forms.
