Egypt's minister of insurance and social affairs says aid money for victims of the train accident should not be seen as compensation

Egypt's minister of insurance and social affairs Nagwa Khalil has ordered the distribution of urgent aid for family members affected by an overnight train accident in the town of Badrashin.

The minister promised on Tuesday an amount of 10,000 EGP for the family members of those killed in the accident and 2,000 EGP for those who were injured.

The train accident on Monday night killed 19 conscripts of Egypt's Central Security Forces and injured 120 injured others after a train carriage derailed on its way to Cairo from Upper Egypt.

Khalil told the Middle East News Agency (MENA) that the money going to those affected was "urgent aid" and not compensation and that certain departments of her ministry.

Khalil also expressed her condolences to the victims' families whose sons were killed "while serving their country."

In a train-bus crash last November in the Upper Egyptian town of Assiut, Prime Minister Hesham Qandil ordered compensation of 50,000 EGP to each family of the deceased and 12,000 EGP to the families of the injured.

At least 53 people were killed in the accident including 49 children after a bus carrying school children between the ages of four and seven, collided with a train in the Assiut village of Manfalout.
