The polio virus from Pakistan has been detected in Egypt, announces the Polio Monitoring and Coordination Cell of Pakistan's prime minister, together with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF on Tuesday.
Two samples taken from sewage water in Cairo’s Dar El-Salam’s and Ezbet El-Haggana districts show there is a virus resembling a strain earlier discovered in Pakistan’s Sukkur district sewage water, the report reveals.
The report recommends the Pakistani government establish polio vaccination counters in all international departure lounges across the country’s airports to avoid further transmission of the virus.
