Members of January 25 revolution youth plan to meet with Turkish president during his visit to Cairo

Turkish President Abdullah Gül arrived in Egypt on Thursday "to express solidarity" with the Egyptian people. Gül plans to meet with members of the January 25 revolution youth on Sunday.

The Turkish leader will sit down with the country’s new military rulers following Mubarak’s ouster. Turkey has called on Egypt’s army to pave the way for a constitutional democracy in Egypt. Turkey's foreign minister described Mubarak’s resignation as a historical development for the Arab world and the region.

Many have argued that Egypt’s parties and institutes can learn from Turkey’s experience. Turkey, as a relatively stable state with a secular constitution and a government led by former Islamists, is often cited as a model Islamist-oriented democracy in the region.
