Minister of interior may be replaced

New minister reported to be one of the old guard in the same ministry accused of systematically killing hundreds of protesters

Minister of Interior Mahmoud Wagdy could be replaced in the coming days following the resignation of former prime minister Ahmed Shafiq.

It is expected that Wagdy will be replaced with General Nabil El-Ezaby.

El-Ezaby has held many public positions, including head of the South Cairo Police Department, security inspector of the Cairo police headquarters, deputy in the Gharbiya police headquarters, deputy of the General Security Department, assistant to the minister of interior in the governorates of Assiut, West Delta and Giza. He was also the assistant of the minister of interior in the Prison Authority Sector, head of Cairo Security and the Governor of Assiut.

El-Ezaby was born in Alexandria in 1946 and holds a degree in law.

Earlier today, Ahmed Shafiq resigned as Egypt's prime minister and was replaced by Essam Sharaf, a former minister of transport.
