A Chinese man was found alive under the rubble of a three-storey building that partially collapsed in the Cairo district of El-Daher on Sunday.
The man was found during a six-hour rescue operation by the Egyptian Civil Defence Authority following the building's collapse on Sunday afternoon. He had suffered fractures and bruises, and was transferred to hospital.
The Chinese embassy in Cairo released a statement later on Sunday, thanking Egyptian authorities for their efforts in rescuing the young man.
No other casualties have yet been reported from the collapse of the building.
Egypt has seen a number of construction disasters over the past few decades, partly owing to building violations or bad maintenance.
According to latest reports, the Chinese expatriate community in Egypt, which includes Muslim students studying at Al-Azhar University in the district of El-Daher and stret vendors, is estimated at between 60,000 and 100,000 residents.
