The number of people injured when a pedestrian bridge collapsed in Obour City, 35 km north-east of Cairo has increased to 12, military spokesman Ahmed Mohamed Ali said in a statement late on Saturday.
The death toll stands at 4, he confirmed.
A section of a pedestrian bridge crossing the Cairo-Ismailia road near Souq El-Obour collapsed on Saturday killing four passengers in a microbus passing underneath.
The bridge was under construction by a civilian company contracted by the armed forces
All those injured are being treated at the military-run International Medical Centre (IMC), Ali added.
The spokesperson said the army will pay LE100,000 in compensation to families of those killed, and LE25,000 to those injured.
The army, which manages numerous construction projects around the country, will launch an immediate probe into the accident, he added.
The Egyptian Armed Forces extended its condolences to the relatives of the victims.
