Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi has discussed with US Secretary of Defense Charles Hagel possible developments in military cooperation between the two countries.
Egypt is one of the largest recipients of American military aid, averaging around $2 billion a year.
According to Al-Ahram’s Arabic-language website, discussions at a Wednesday meeting in Cairo between the two men also included the civil war in Syria. Hagel reportedly stressed the importance of intervening to bring about peace through settlements instigated by regional and international powers.
