Sharaf oversees transfer of state security to cabinet

Proposal will see the state security service and the office of the prosecutor general come under the authority of the direct oversight of the prime minister

Essam Sharaf, Egypt's prime minister, has announced that he will personally oversee the proposed transfer of the state security service and the office of the prosecutor general from their respective ministeries, to the direct oversight of the cabinet.

The proposal recommends the separation of the state security apparatus from the ministry of interior and the prosecutor general's office from the ministry of justice. Both would subsequently be placed under the direct authority of the prime minister.
