Eleven new government ministers are expected to be sworn into office by President Morsi on Tuesday morning before he departs for an official visit to Brazil.
Sources within the government had said the reshuffle would be announced late Monday or early Tuesday.
The ministries targeted in the reshuffle are expected to include the Ministry of Justice, whose minister Ahmed Mekki recently resigned, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Investment and the Ministry of Agriculture. However, nothing has yet been officially confirmed.
On 20 April, Morsi told Al Jazeera that a cabinet reshuffle – a demand of Egypt's political opposition – would be announced "soon."
Presidential spokesman Omar Amer said on 30 April that Prime Minister Hisham Qandil, who assumed office last August, would continue in his post.
Qandil said on Monday evening that Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim would remain in his post, according to Al-Ahram Arabic news website.
Egypt's last cabinet reshuffle took place in January when ten new ministers were sworn in, including ministers of interior, finance, and transportation.
