Overseas supporters of the 'Rebel' campaign are planning events to show their solidarity with the anti-government initiative.

Supporters of the petition drive, which aims to collect signatures in support of a vote of no confidence in President Mohamed Morsi, have started to mobilise for mass rallies on 30 June.

The campaigners have called for a million-strong rally outside the presidential palace in Cairo's Heliopolis district on the date, which marks one year since President Morsi assumed office. The rally will call for early presidential elections.

Egyptian expatriates in the United States announced plans to stage a demonstration on 30 June at 2pm outside the United Nations headquarters in New York, while similar events are also expected outside Egyptian embassies in Europe.

The initiative seeks to collect 15 million signatures to withdraw confidence from President Morsi, outnumbering the 13.2 million votes Morsi won in the final round of Egypt's first-ever free presidential polls last year, in which he narrowly beat Mubarak-era prime minister Ahmed Shafiq.

Organisers announced last week that the movement has succeeded in gathering 7,540,535 signatures in support of its cause. They plan to submit the petition and the signatures to the prosecutor-general at the end of June.
