Unidentified corpse found on Monday could be conscript who went missing last week in Western military zone, army spokesperson says

A body found in Marsa Matrouh could be missing army conscript Mokhtar Essam Mokhtar, an army spokesperson has said.

Mokhtar went missing last Wednesday in Egypt's Western military zone. He was not seen on a military train with other conscripts.

His brother claims Mokhtar was kidnapped by militants but nothing has been officially confirmed.

The military has been on a search mission since Mokhtar was reported missing.

The body, which was found on Monday by a military search team, has not been identified because it is in a decayed state. Tests are underway.
