In 2020, Egypt produced 1.7 million tons of dates, contributing over 21 per cent of global date production, estimated at eight million tons, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation.

Saudi Arabia will allow fully-vaccinated Egyptian pilgrims arriving via on direct flights from Egypt to perform Umrah (the small pilgrimage) as per a decision last week to remove the country from the kingdom's restricted list on direct flights, starting Wednesday, 1 December.
