Ahram Online sources reveal that there is a possibility that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces together with the government may decide on holding presidential elections before parliamentary elections.

This decision, if taken, would respond to requests by some political and social circles to give political parties time to prepare for elections, and to minimise possible thuggery during the process, a common problem faced in prior elections.

Several intellectuals and political figures have campaigned for postponing parliamentary elections, arguing that more time is needed for a more diverse political life in Egypt to emerge.

It is argued that if rushed, the next elections would likely be dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood and a reconstituted National Democratic Party.
