Egyptian army forces on Thursday surrounded the area around Cairo University following deadly clashes between supporters and opponents of deposed president Mohamed Morsi.
All streets leading to the area have been closed, while the University Bridge in front of the university's main gate has also been blocked, along with adjacent streets.
The Cairo University demonstration was the second largest rally in support of the ousted president. The biggest – which at one point numbered in the hundreds of thousands – was in Nasr City's Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square, where pro-Morsi demonstrators are still said to remain.
It began after the Egyptian Armed Forces on Monday announced a roadmap for ending the political crisis, which was implemented on Wednesday with Morsi's removal.
Before the army seized control of the area, fierce clashes had erupted leaving at least 16 dead.
