Hatem Oda, head of Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), announced on Sunday that 7 August will be the last day of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, meaning that the first day of the Eid Al-Fitr holiday will fall on 8 August.

According to Islamic tradition, Eid Al-Fitr begins when the new moon can be spotted by the naked eye, indicating the end of Ramadan, which is either 29 or 30 days long.

This year, Ramadan is 29 days long, according to the NRIAG.
