Ahmed El-Meslemani, media advisor for interim President Adly Mansour, has rejected predictions that Egypt will become another Syria.

"Those who push us in this direction are traitors and agents," he said in comments reported by state news agency MENA on Tuesday.

"Foreign media as well Western capitals that are spreading lies about the revolution and the Egyptian state will get nothing but shame and disgrace," he added.

The statement came hours after clashes between supporters and opponents of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in Cairo, Giza and Qalioubiya left 12 dead and 86 injured.
