French President Francois Hollande has summoned the Egyptian ambassador to France for a meeting on Thursday, sources at the presidency said, after a crackdown on supporters of Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi left hundreds dead.

Wednesday's violence, triggered when security forces stormed pro-Morsi protest camps, has left over 400 dead across Egypt, according to official figures, sparking international condemnation.
