Egypt's interim president, minister of interior and army chief meet Monday to discuss Sinai following deadly attack on police

Egypt's interim President Adly Mansour received army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim to assess the security situation in the restive Sinai Peninsula near the Israeli border.

Twenty-five police personnel were killed Monday morning by unidentified gunmen near the border town of Rafah.

Sinai has been witnessing almost daily attacks on security units by suspected militants since the military deposed president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July after mass protests calling for his ouster.

Egyptian security forces had already announced they have intensified attacks on militants in Sinai in the upsurge of violence in the sensitive Israel-Egypt border region.
