Giza zoo saw one hundred thousand visitors on the first day of Eid al-Adha Tuesday, taking advantage of free entry in celebration of the Islamic holiday.
At the doors of the largest and oldest zoo in Africa, excessive security measures, including walk through explosive detectors were utilised.
According to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website, the elephants, giraffes and renowned 'Hany the bear' were among the most visited animals on Tuesday.
Giza Zoo was conceived by Khedive Ismail and launched in 1891.
