Scuffles broke out Saturday afternoon between hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood and Revolutionary Socialist students at the University of Alexandria.

According to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website, the dispute erupted after members of the Muslim Brotherhood reacted to chants against them by socialist students. 

Both groups were holding separate anti-military, anti-police marches on campus. 

Several were injured according to Al-Ahram, including a member of the Student Union, Hakim Abdel-Naim, who suffered from bleeding to his face.

Brotherhood students later attempted to march off campus and police fired teargas to disperse them.

Since the beginning of the academic year in Egypt, universities have been witnessing fierce clashes between supporters and opponents of deposed president Mohamed Morsi, in addition to clashes between students and security forces. As a result, several students, most of who are affiliated with Islamist groups, have been arrested.
