North Sinai sees a low turnout and high approval rate of Egypt's new draft constitution

The results of the final Egyptian governorate are out. North Sinai - where the army is confronting Islamist militants - saw the lowest turnout in the country.

Only 17 percent of the governorate's 223,533 registered voters cast their ballot, approving the charter 94.4 percent versus 5.6 percent against, according to Al-Ahram's print edition.

The final results, unofficial so far, estimated the approval at 98 percent against a meager 2 percent rejection and a turnout of almost 37 percent in Egypt's 27 governorates.
