Monday’s court session of former interior minister Habib Al-Adly was delayed for hours due to inclement weather.
It was teeming with rain in Cairo and other Egyptian cities on Sunday, causing widespread traffic problems.
Adly is indicted on charges of money laundering and embezzlement. He is also being held accountable for the killing of protesters during the early days of the January 25 Revolution. Escorted by security personnel in a blue van, Adly arrived to the courtroom late. He was brought on time during all the previous sessions.
A security official said the driver deliberately slowed down on his way to the court to avoid road accidents.
The judges, who are to hear Adly’s defence team today, also arrived late as a result of the slippery streets.
