Egyptian Interim President Adly Mansour will address the nation on Sunday, his spokesman Ehab Badawy announced on Saturday afternoon.

Mansour is expected to announce the next step in the transitional road map which was put in place following president Mohamed Morsi’s ouster last July. The first step in the plan put in place by the transitional authorities was completed last week when a new constitution was approved in a national referendum.

According to the post-Morsi road map, parliamentary and presidential elections should follow the vote on the national charter. Under the new constitution, Mansour has the power to decide which election should come first, on the condition that the second poll must start within six months of the ratification of the constitution.

Several presidential dialogues have been taking place with different political groups. Most of them have voiced their support for presidential elections first.

Mansour’s speech will take place a day after the third anniversary of the 2011 revolution, and following days of unrest around the country.

At least five people were killed on Saturday in a number of different governorates as security forces clashed with protesters. The police reportedly dispersed protests organised by Morsi loyalists, and by groups opposed to both the Brotherhood and the military.

Earlier on Saturday, an explosive device was set off in front of a police training centre in Cairo's Ain Shams district causing some damage done to the centre's perimeter fence.

On Friday, four explosions, targeting police institutions and checkpoints, hit Greater Cairo, killing six and injuring at least 80. Fifteen protesters were also reported killed in violent clashes in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria and Ismailia.
