Two improvised explosive devices were detonated Friday in front of a Giza Central Security Forces barracks on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road.

Interior Ministry spokesman Hany Abdel-Latif told Al-Ahram Arabic website that the explosions had severely damaged a central security vechicle parked in front of the camp, and injured a lower-ranking police officer. 

Egypt had been rocked by a wave of terrorist attacks by suspeted Islamic militants in the past few weeks.

Last Friday, a series of four bombs exploded in different areas of the capital killing 6.

One of those explosions targeted Cairo's security directorate in Bab El-Khalk, blowing out the windows of the building and causing serious damage to the nearby Museum of Islamic Art.
