NGOs demand voting rights for Egyptians abroad

Ahram Online, Tuesday 5 Apr 2011

It is time to give all citizens the right to vote, say NGOs

Twelve international and Egyptian NGOs sent a request to Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the Cabinet demanding that Egyptians abroad are given the right to vote. They have based their request on Egypt’s constitution which provides all citizens with the right to vote during elections.

The NGOS demanded that authorities take the necessary steps that would enable Egyptians abroad to vote. They also requested that  all Egyptian embassies provide ballot boxes for Egyptians to submit their votes using their national ID card or a valid Egyptian passport.

The petitioning organizations include the US based Egyptian Organization for Change, the UK based National Organization for Change, the Canadian based Egyptian Organization for Change, the Coalition for Egyptian-Americans, Coalition for Egyptian Organizations, The Egyptian American Institution, Egyptians United, Bakah Institution, the January 25 Solidarity for Democracy, The National Association for Change, the Association for Egyptians Studying in North America and Egyptians without borders.
